WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

We bring a cappella to you

The UK A Cappella Society was founded in 2020 to spread the joy of modern a cappella singing across the UK. Our aim is to provide a community hub for modern a cappella across the UK where anyone, experienced or not, can find resources, tips, support, and ways to get involved with the art of a cappella.

HOW WE HELP

Our Mission

To advance, improve, develop, and encourage public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of A Cappella music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including; through the presentation of public concerts and recitals; through acting as a resource centre for those interested in A Cappella; developing outreach projects to increase diversity and open the music to a wider audience.

We aim to do this through our CORE Strands:

  • Community

  • Outreach

  • Resources

  • Equality & Diversity

COMMUNITY

The a cappella community in the UK has historically been fragmented, with groups only meeting in high-pressure situations. We aim to create a friendly and welcoming community hub where singers can meet each other, make friends, work on projects and celebrate each other's success! And we'd love for you to be a part of it.

OUTREACH

Our aim is to bring a cappella education to everyone! We will work closely with educational organisations to provide young people, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, with opportunities and resources that can help them to gain skills and experience in a cappella singing.

RESOURCES

We provide both our members and the general public with the knowledge and tools to learn more about the art of a cappella and to progress in their singing journey. We provide guides, advice, support, arrangements, and learning opportunities like workshops and classes from some of the biggest talents in the UK A Cappella scene.

EQUALITY & DIVERSITY

23-DSC_0657.jpg

A cappella in the UK is varied, but is most often found in Universities, where only the privileged get to take part. This has lead to an imbalance of singers from different backgrounds and musical influences from different cultures. We aim to make a cappella singing available to everyone through inclusivity and diversity initiatives that open up the community to all.

What's the most important thing you've gained from being involved in a cappella?

"A second family - walking into an a cappella gig or a competition anywhere always feels like a reunion, regardless of how many people you know there already. A cappella has such a way of bringing people together over a shared passion, something that even a global pandemic can't stop!
